Panel of E-Discovery Pioneers and Experts Tackle Tough Questions about Taking TAR to the next level

DENVER—October 02, 2013Catalyst Repository Systems, Inc. - a pioneer of secure, cloud-based software that helps corporations and their law firms take control of e-discovery, compliance and regulatory matters, today announced it is putting on a two-and-a-half hour program during which e-discovery pioneers and experts will explore how corporate counsel and law firm litigation professionals can take technology-assisted review (TAR) to the next level and solve real-world e-discovery review problems. The program will take place on Thursday, October 10th from noon to 2:30 p.m. ET at Kirkland & Ellis in New York.

The panel discussion, "TAR for the Real World: Practical Problems, Pragmatic Solutions," will be moderated by Monica Bay, Editor-in-Chief of Law Technology News. Panelists include e-discovery pioneers and experts Jason R. Baron, co-founder of the TREC Legal Track and former co-chair of The Sedona Conference WG1 on Electronic Document Retention and Production; Clifton C. Dutton, senior vice president, director of strategies and e-discovery, AIG legal operations center; Conor R. Crowley, principal, Crowley law office and Chair of the Steering Committee for The Sedona Conference WG1 on Best Practices for Electronic Document Retention and Production, in addition to being the Editor-in-Chief of The Sedona Conference Commentary on Proportionality in E-Discovery; and Jeremy Pickens, senior research scientist for Catalyst; plus Catalyst CEO John Tredennick, who was named one of the top six "e-discovery trailblazers" by American Lawyer and one of the "Top 100 Global Technology Leaders" by London's CityTech magazine.

"Every day, legal professionals are faced with tough problems that introductory TAR sessions rarely help them address, and without sufficient information to use their TAR tools effectively, the potential cost and time savings may be seriously diluted," said Tredennick. "I am very excited to help bring together such a distinguished group to provide insights into the practical use of TAR."

The challenges of e-discovery review result not only from the explosion of data, but also from the constraints imposed by rolling data collections, tight deadlines and the need to start review right now.

Topics addressed during the program will include:

  • How do you deal with real world problems like rolling uploads, endless random documents and the need to wait for an expert?
  • How do you decide when you have enough responsive documents, and what do the courts require?
  • How do you determine whether the "black box" (TAR technology) worked and what kind of proof is needed?
  • What role do magistrates play and how much transparency is required?
  • How much time and money can you save over linear review and what kinds of cases are suitable?
  • The uses of TAR for information governance, investigations, productions and other purposes.
